In any successful van conversion, every detail matters—and that includes the floor beneath your feet. When we started building out our Ford Transit, we knew we needed a durable, lightweight, and insulated flooring solution. After plenty of research, we landed on the Composite Van Floor by DIY Van, and it’s been one of the best decisions for our van build. This one-piece composite floor provides everything you need for comfort. The combination of easy installation, exceptional durability, and insulation has truly transformed the way we experience van life.

Why We Chose the Composite Van Floor by DIY Van

A Lightweight Solution

As we started planning our van conversion, we knew that finding the right flooring was critical. We needed something that could handle the rigors of van life—durable, lightweight, and well-insulated. That’s when we came across the Composite Van Floor by DIY Van. This floor is specifically designed for Ford Transit conversions, making it a perfect fit for our build. Its one-piece design meant no complex installations or extra materials, and its insulated composite material helps keep the interior temperature stable, whether we’re adventuring in the mountains or on the coast.

One of the standout benefits of the DIY Van Composite Floor is how lightweight it is. When converting a van, weight is always a concern because extra pounds can affect fuel efficiency, and with this floor, that’s not an issue. Installation was also a breeze, made easier by the fact that the floor comes ready to fit into the Ford Transit. The process was quick—though it did involve a fun trip to Oregon to pick it up! To hear about that adventure and the scenic journey it took us on, check out our full story [here].

The Journey to Hood River

From Texas to Oregon: Our Adventure on the Road

Picking up the DIY Van Composite Floor wasn’t just a purchase—it was part of an incredible road trip. We traveled from Texas all the way to Hood River, Oregon, making a few memorable stops along the way. Our first night was spent at a TA Truck Stop in Santa Rosa, NM, where we grabbed some rest before heading further west. We then camped on BLM land in the beautiful Moab, UT, surrounded by red rock landscapes that made us wish we could stay longer.

As we neared Oregon, we stopped at a rest area in Weatherby, OR for one final break before reaching Hood River. The drive itself was an adventure, and we captured all the highlights and challenges in our full travel blog [here]. If you’re curious about what it’s like to road-trip through some of the most stunning landscapes in the U.S., don’t miss it!

Insulation That Keeps You Comfortable

Stay Warm in Winter and Cool in Summer

One of the best parts about the Composite Floors is how well it insulates the van. Whether we’re in freezing mountain temps or parked somewhere hot, the floor helps keep things cozy inside. It’s been a game-changer, especially on those cold nights when the ground is icy but the van feels warm and comfortable.

The insulation has made such a difference in our overall comfort, especially when paired with the rest of our van build. We no longer have to worry about cold seeping up from the van’s metal base, and it also helps with soundproofing. If you’re out on a peaceful adventure, the last thing you want is road noise disrupting your sleep, and this floor has made a big difference there too.

Professional Installation by Hein at DIY Van

Expert Service That Made All the Difference
While we had initially planned to install the DIY Van Composite Floor ourselves, we were lucky enough to have Hein, the owner of DIY Van, install it for us during our trip to Hood River. Having someone with Hein’s expertise handle the installation made the process not only faster but also ensured that everything was done perfectly.

Watching Hein work, we could tell how much care and precision went into laying the one-piece composite floor. From aligning the floor perfectly to securing it in place, Hein’s knowledge was clear from the start. He even walked us through how the floor’s insulation works to keep the van warm during cold nights and cool during the summer heat.

If you’re considering the DIY Van Composite Floor, I can’t recommend Hein’s expertise and service enough. Having it installed by the person who knows the product inside and out gave us peace of mind that it was done right the first time.
