A Quiet Week at Allens Bar Campground

Our First Time Camping on Private Land

This was our first time staying on private land, not a campground with spots and hookups, just a river bank and general rules. When you head in you will see a box to leave the cash, which is $5/night. It is the honor system, so honor it and don’t ruin it for the rest of us. The campground gets busy at night time but during the day it’s quiet and a good place to relax or work, which work is what we did.

$25 for 5 days

We got in on a Monday evening and ended up leaving $30 for the week. System is really good – leave your vehicle information with the cash and drop it in the metal box. When you drive up you will see a house on the left and that seems to be the owners property. Just keep driving straight and then boom – the river bank.

Our Week

We had a busy work week, so we needed somewhere we could relax, focus on work, and get back into our normal routines. Foggy, misty mornings were spent working, while the afternoons brought blue skies, cool breezes, and temperatures that stayed below 85 degrees.

Most days ended with a late afternoon nap, dinner, and an early bedtime. Nothing big happened. There weren’t any amazing adventures, but sometimes that’s exactly what you need. Just a quiet week by the Hoh River with a van full of food, plenty of water, and reliable internet.
